Anything But Ordinary by Valerie Hobbs

I unfortunately wasted money on this book while at a "What's Hot in Young Adult Literature" conference a few weeks ago. The lady who spoke of the book said it was darling and great and wonderful, so I purchased it with hopes that it would be all of those things.

It wasn't.

Essentially, two abnormal teens become great friends during junior high. It all starts with an ugly green hat. They fall in love and they are really smart academic wise and decide to go to college together. Well, the boy's (Bernie) mom dies and he goes into a deep downward spiral and his grades suffer. The girl (Winifred) moves to California to go to school and goes from being different and unique to a trend follower and a "fake."

Bernie travels via beaten up old truck to see her and experiences sadness when he realizes she's changed.

And then it just gets really crazy; really, it's not worth mentioning the rest.

And I'll be honest: I'm not one bit mad that Zeus chewed up the cover of this book.
